ORIP’s Division of Construction and Instruments (DCI) supports research infrastructure in three areas: the S10 Instrumentation Programs (acquisition of state-of-the-art research instruments), the R24 Equipment Program (acquisition of modern research or auxiliary equipment to enhance operations of shared-use biomedical research facilities), and Extramural Construction Programs (construction and modernization of research facilities).

Eligible applicants for these opportunities are domestic public and private institutions of higher education, as well as nonprofit domestic institutions, such as hospitals, health professional schools, and research organizations. Any award from any of these programs must benefit groups of investigators by enhancing and modernizing biomedical research experiments, services, operations, and/or protocols on a shared-use basis.

The S10 High-End Instrumentation Grant (HEI) and S10 Shared Instrumentation Grant (SIG) Programs allow multiple applications per institution, whereas the S10 Basic Instrumentation Grant (BIG), R24 Equipment, and C06 Construction Programs are limited to one application per institution. Applicants are encouraged to reach out to the Program Officer(s) of the notice of funding opportunity of interest prior to submitting an application.

In the past, DCI released two notices requesting information:

  • Data Annotation in Biomedical Core Research Facilities (NOT-OD-16-091)
  • Effects of Extrinsic Environmental Factors on Animal Research (NOT-OD-17-011)

The responses were collected into executive summaries:
