Investigator-Initiated Research Project
Supports a discrete specified project performed in an investigator's area of competency. Areas of interest to ORIP include research to create new or to improve existing technologies or instruments or to establish, expand, or improve an animal model or model system.

| Small Business Award Programs | Small Business Innovation Research Awards (SBIR) Phase I (R43) supports research to establish the technical merit and feasibility of research ideas that may ultimately lead to commercial products or services that will have broad application to biomedical research. Phase I also determines the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization prior to providing further federal support. |

| Small Business Award Programs | Small Business Technology Transfer Program (STTR) Phase I (R41) and Phase II (R42) of the STTR Program seek to increase the commercialization of technology developed through Federal funding that will ultimately benefit the public. However, the unique feature of the STTR Program is the requirement for the small business concern applicant organization to partner and formally collaborate with research universities and other nonprofit research institutions.
