ORIP Publishes Third and Fourth Commentaries in Nature Lab Animal Series on SARS-CoV-2 Research Using Nonhuman Primate Models

Nonhuman Primate Models for SARS-CoV-2 Research

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has significantly increased demand for the nonhuman primate (NHP) research needed to develop vaccines and treatments for COVID-19. ORIP recently published commentaries in Nature Lab Animal on the potential role of cryopreservation in maintaining critical NHP models and enhancing the genetic diversity of colonies (doi.org/10.1038/s41684-021-00792-1) and on managing the demand for specific-pathogen-free NHPs (doi.org/10.1038/s41684-021-00810-2). Earlier commentaries addressed selecting the best NHP models (doi.org/10.1038/s41684-021-00755-6), as well as providing the biocontainment laboratories and skilled workforce that are essential to COVID-19 research in NHPs (doi.org/10.1038/s41684-021-00760-9).
