ORIP Publishes Two Commentaries in Nature Lab Animal on Nonhuman Primate Models for SARS-CoV-2 Research

Nonhuman Primate Models for SARS-CoV-2 Research

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has significantly increased the demand for both nonhuman primates (NHPs), the preclinical model most predictive of disease and treatment outcomes in humans, and biocontainment laboratory spaces adjacent to facilities housing NHPs. ORIP published two commentaries in Nature Lab Animal (doi.org/10.1038/s41684-021-00755-6, doi.org/10.1038/s41684-021-00760-9) discussing the need for more NHPs, selecting the best NHP models for research studies, and providing sufficient containment space and skilled personnel to work in these facilities.
